Foundations for the Future

Currently, Saving Grace School is able to provide pre-primary education only. That’s because Tanzanian law dictates a school operate on a minimum of 2.5 acres in order to offer all primary grades. In addition, we are limited by the space of our small, rented facility: at present, the school consists of only 3 classrooms, a small kitchen, one dormitory, and the school office.

Although our impact is still very much beneficial, we feel that there is so much more we can do to make a difference in the lives of eager students.

The Plan

To continue growing with the student body, Saving Grace needs to purchase a plot of land. Tanzanian law dictates a minimum of 2.5 acres in order to offer all primary grades. However, we feel that 2.5 acres doesn’t provide much in the way of expansion opportunities, and we aim to purchase a total of 10 acres over the course of this campaign.

We have broken our project into three phases.

Phase 1

  • Purchase initial 3 acres

  • Acquire registration to become a fully certified primary school

  • Initial build:

    • Classrooms

    • Dormitories

    • Kitchen

    • Dining hall

    • Library

    • Office

    • Storage

    • Toilets

    • Garden

    • Recreational space and playground

Phase 2

  • Purchase 3 additional acres

  • 12 new classrooms

  • Upgrades and expansions:

    • Kitchen

    • Library

Phase 3

  • Purchase final 4 acres

  • Additions:

    • Athletic facility

    • Computer lab

    • Science lab

    • Classrooms

    • Dormitories

What We Need

We estimate that the total cost for all phases will come to approximately $200,000.

Phase 1: $65,000
Land: $54,000
Building materials: $10,000
Labor: $8,000
Classroom furnishings: $2,000

*Full financial breakdown will be available soon. Please contact us for more information.

Risk

With all ambitious projects comes some form of risk. We have assessed the risks of this project and made plans to mitigate the following:

  • Inadequate funds: actual expenses exceed cost estimates or funds run out before completion of the project
  • Adjacent land: all plots adjacent to the original plot are purchased
  • Over expansion: the expansion to a larger facility increases operating expenses such that we are forced to scale back
